History of Anchorage City Church
Anchorage City Church was begun as Anchorage Christian
Center in March of 1983, when pastor Dick Strutz left
his pastoral position at Abbott Loop Community Church to
start a new congregation. The church met in several
different school buildings until in November of 1984, when it
moved into a warehouse on Silverado Way.
In September 1987 the church moved into a larger
commercial space at 639 W. International Airport Road,
and in October of 1998 we moved back into Abbott Loop
Community Church's facility. Abbott Loop graciously
shared their space with us until our new church building
was finished in 2003. Finally, on Easter Sunday, just
twenty years after having started Anchorage City Church,
we finally had our own church home.
During these years Anchorage Christian Center has sent
out several people to begin churches and to establish
other Christian ministries. It has always been a part of
ACC’s vision to strengthen existing churches where
practical and to plant new churches in urban and rural
Alaska. In more recent years, there has been a defining
of vision for city, state and international ministry.
Richard and Lindy Irwin who were part of the foundation
team for Anchorage Christian Center returned to the
church in 2000 to assume the leadership of the church
from Dick Strutz the founder of ACC and father to Lindy
Irwin. Dick Strutz now travels around the State of
Alaska in ministry and is enjoying the fruit of his
years in ministry.
Anchorage Christian Center’s name was changed to
Anchorage City Church in 2004. A new building has been
built at the intersection of 100th and Minnesota, in
South Anchorage.
We now hold two Sunday morning services to
accommodate growth. Ministries continue to grow and lives
are being touched and changed by the presence of God.
All praise goes to Jesus Christ who is always faithful!
