Encouraging Ministry in Rural Alaska

Alaska Natives at KivalinaAnchorage City Church has made Alaska’s rural communities a focus of ministry for many years. Our heart and passion is for the Kingdom of God to expand throughout our state. We are convinced that God has great plans to use native Alaskans for ministry far beyond our borders, and we know that reaching out to serve the people of these small towns and villages is crucial for God’s will to be accomplished within us all.

Almost all Alaska villages have some form of organized Christian witness within them, and one of our primary goals is to assist these small churches and groups in forming networks of supporting ministries within their regions. Presently we are focusing on several ministries and villages within Northwestern Alaska, and working with several pastors of the local Friends Churches in the area. We are encouraging these pastors, and their churches to get together for times of mutual edification and support.

Dick Strutz, Mary Glazier, and Richard Irwin at KivalinaOne of the things that we are currently doing is sending staple food supplies each month to numerous rural families that have specific needs. Through this and other means we have established personal contacts and friendships with people, and find that in spite of differences in ethnicity and culture, we have much to offer and much to receive from these wonderful believers.

We have sent, and continue to send, small teams of people to serve and assist the churches in numerous rural Alaskan communities. Some of these go as ministry teams to conduct evangelistic, teaching and healing meetings, and some go to help develop community projects.

If you are interested in coming alongside to serve the great people of rural Alaska, we encourage you to get involved. If you want to help with our efforts to do the same, welcome aboard.

Our desire is to see Alaska ablaze with the good news of Jesus Christ!
