Finding Jesus in the 21st Century

It is on one level more complicated to find Jesus in the 21st century than at any other time since He walked the earth.

21st century life in America - and in most of the developed world - is filled until it almost seems as if there could not possibly be more.  It is filled with busyness; it's filled with things.....deadlines, and hockey games, and iPODs, and movies, and cars, and trips, and vacations, and family, and email and on and on and on.

But when we find that real life is not found in busyness, and when we wearily stop to look for direction, finding Jesus is not difficult: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest," (Matt 11:28, NIV).

But the spiritual dimension of reality is all too easy to miss in the 21st century.

It can neither be touched nor felt with our emotions.  The "things" that fill our lives seem to dazzle our eyes so that the simple but profound truths on which God built the universe cannot be easily seen.

But there is a life that never ends; a life that is centered far away from the dazzle and the busyness of the world.

Jesus promises rest....an assurance that although life is swirling around us at an ever increasing pace, at the core....where He lives in all who believe....there is peace....and there is rest.

The physical component of life is easy to understand.  We know it whenever we touch, or smell, or hear.  Even the emotional side of life is comprehensible.  We know it whenever we hurt from rejection or abuse or see pain in others.

Jesus said, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16, NIV).

And not only is there life that never ends, there is abundant life here on earth.  Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10, NIV)

You can have that life that never ends; you can have life to the full -- and you don't have to wait for Heaven.  You can have rest.

You don't need to come to our church meetings or any other to find it.

You need only do this: "...if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Rom. 10:9, NIV)

Simply ask Jesus into your life.  That simple step, which you can take right now as you read this computer screen, will be the beginning of a change in your destiny from death to a life that never ends....a life that is full, as Jesus promised.

When you have taken that step, ask Him to forgive you of your sins.  "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."  (1 John 1:9, NIV) Do it, and you will feel the heavy weight lift from your shoulders.

If you have accepted Christ as you have read His promises, Heaven rejoices with you: "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent," Jesus said. (Luke 15:7, NIV)

We, your new brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus rejoice with you, too.  There is a fellowship of  believers in most places on earth.   We urge you to find that fellowship that fits you and become a faithful part of it.

Be baptized in water and seek the Holy Spirit baptism that can fill your life with the power that is given  for us from Heaven.  You will grow more than you ever thought possible.

Obtain a Bible and read God's words to you.  They will make you strong and powerful in Him who is able to keep you from falling.  (Jude 1:24, NIV
