Listen to Anchorage City Church sermons from 2006
December 31 - 11am - Richard Irwin - Preparation
for 2007
What the Holy Spirit set
in motion during the second service this Sunday was
pivotal for spiritual focus for Anchorage City
Church. This service was, in part, a declaration
made by Pastor Irwin over the congregation for
2007. The message was oriented to preparing
ourselves for the amazing things that God is going
to do in His Church in 2007. The text was Joshua
chapter one and 1 Sam.17. 2007 is a year of favor,
God’s blessing and great faith is required to
possess the promises that God has in store for His
people.
December 17 - 11am - Jim Strutz - Evidences for
Christ
During the
Christmas season we need to remember that Jesus was
also a real person who lived for over 30 years, laid
his life down and then rose from the dead. In the
process of his life he performed miracles and taught
people about his Father and the nature of his
spiritual kingdom. But while many in our culture
openly recall the scene of a harmless baby in a
manger, not all believe the rest of the story. There
are many skeptics, but few of them have seriously
looked at the evidences for Christ. In this message
Jim Strutz recites numerous proofs of the reality
and reasonableness of the Christian faith. Certainly
Christianity requires faith, but that faith is
reasonable based on a close and honest look at the
evidence. So open your mind to the reasonableness of
facts as you listen to a story that could change
your life.
December 10 - 9 am - Kim Patterson - How to have
a Mary Christmas
"Tis the
season..." But so often it is far less than the
joyous season it ought to be. Why is this? After
all, don't Christian's have the best reasons to
celebrate the love of God shown to the world? Sadly,
for many the holiday season seems to be a time that
just points out the loneliness and frustration of
our lives. Kim Patterson examines Mary's reactions
to the most surprising news of her life, and shows
what we can learn from her example. By applying
these seven "how to" principles found in this Bible
story, we can to have a real Mary Christmas.
December 3 - 11 am - Richard Irwin - Engaging Our
Community
God has placed us
in community with believers, but sometimes this
excused some to withdraw from engaging with
non-believers. However, the Bible shows us that as
Christians we have a responsibility to connect with
the people within our sphere or influence, and while
we are not "of the world," we are still in it.
Richard shows us how how to be salt and light to
those around us.
November 26 - 9 am - Jim Strutz - Understanding the
Bible
Understanding the
scriptures is a vital part of Christian life, but
how do we keep from being deceived by false
doctrines and even our own imaginations? You don't
have to be a full time Bible scholar to understand
what the Bible says, but there are some traps to
avoid. Jim Strutz presents the basics of
hermeneutics in a simple and practical way.
November 12 - 11 am - Tony Anthony - Faultless
Tony Anthony, an
apostle in India, reveals God's purpose and power
for our lives.
November 12 - 11 am - Judith Green - Restoring a
Soft Heart

the hardness of our hearts and reveals the cure that
the Father wants to bring to us.

October
22 - 9 am - Richard Irwin -

community. A change in the way
we view evangelism.
October 15 - 9 am - Dr. Kim Patterson -

God has placed
a champion inside of You! Doctor Patterson
Brings Godly insight into the biblical example
of Gideon with a personal application to help
all of us "press toward the mark for the prize
of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus"
October 1 - 9 am - Brian Gray - Biblical
Mandate for Social Interaction
What is the
responsibility of today's church in the face of
our ever changing culture? Has the government
removed our obligation to the poor? Is the
church still relevant as a provider to the needs
of society? Brian Gray addresses the
social responsibility of the church thru history
as well as in out present situation.
September 17 -11 am - Richard Irwin - Shifting
Paradigms
Richard
discusses the the shifting paradigms (our
understanding) of ministry in the 21st century,
and explains how they have changed. The culture
that we live in is not the same place that we,
or our parents grew up in. We need to alter the
the methods of our ministry, and the
expectations we have for our ministers.
September 10 - 11 am - Richard Irwin - Everyone
is a Minister
Continuing our
look into spiritual gifts, Richard shows how that we
are all equipped to serve in unique ways. All have
been empowered and commissioned to be ministers of
the gospel of Jesus Christ.
September 3 - 9 am - Jim Strutz - Deacons in the
New Testament
An overview of
deacons in the New Testament from a teacher's
perspective. Jim Strutz examines key scriptures
that reveal who deacons are and what they really
do. In the process a comparison of deacons with
bishops and elders is discussed.
August 27 - 11 am - Richard Irwin - Spiritual Gifts:
Deacons
Richard takes
another look at spiritual gifts within the
church, and this time closely examines the gift
and office of the deacon. This is a ministry of
service, and while being a practical ministry,
it is also a gift that is supernaturally
bestowed upon certain believers. Every believer
is gifted in uniquely different ways. Listen in
to see if this describes you.
August 20 - 9 am - Jim Strutz - Spiritual Gifts
Continuing
with our recent series on gifts and ministries
within the church, Jim Strutz takes a close look
at the gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist,
pastor and teacher, outlined in Ephesians 4. As
you will hear from the discussion, these gifts
are still active in the church, preparing others
for their service to God. This message examines
the purposes and limits of each ministry, and
why each of us responds so differently to them.
Many times we
judge ourselves failures to be what we think we
should be, when, in fact, God has made us
something different. Listen in and let the Word
of God set you free.
August 13 - 11 am - Richard Irwin - Your Place in
the Church - 3
Pastor
Richard's third message in his series on the
church. Every person in Christ's church is a
minister with a calling, a gift and a place. For
the church to be all that God has destined it to
be, each member needs to take the place they are
called to and exercise their gift. You don't
have to be perfect before becoming a minister.
In fact you can never become mature without
first becoming a minister. God delights in doing
the marvelous with those less than marvelous.
August 6 - 11 am - Richard Irwin - Love the Church -
2
Pastor
Richard's second message on the subject of the
church. The church is the object of Christ's
love. It is his passion, and we are a part of
it. Each believer has a part to play and a
destiny to fulfill, but far more glorious than
that, we are the ones called and chosen to be
loved by God himself. Never despise his church,
or think for a moment that we are unable to
accomplish all that God has destined for us. His
Spirit within us is more than able to do all
that he requires through us.
July 30 - 11 am - Richard Irwin - The Triumphant
Church - 1
God Almighty
has entrusted the care and prosperity his
kingdom to a most unlikely lot - the church.
Seemingly insignificant, the church that Jesus
started is, in fact, empowered by the
supernatural abilities of the Holy Spirit, and
every believer has been given gifts that enable
each to participate in the miraculous revelation
of God's glory. Only a God of unlimited power
would dare entrust so much to such superficially
poor prospects. And yet God, knowing the end
from the beginning, sees the final outcome of
triumph through the church. You are part of
God's plan for that glorious end. Come take your
place.
July 24 - 7 pm - Ruben Kassabian - Finding
Strength in God
When King
David experienced a great loss he responded in a
way that changed more than his attitude. He
chose the response that brought change to the
circumstance and the people around him. He
grieved as others, but he did not allow blame
and bitterness to control his heart. In doing
so, he received strength from God, and recovered
all that had been lost.
July 23 - 11 am - Ruben Kassabian - The Price of
Revival
In ancient times King Josiah turns his heart and
his nation towards God, bringing one of the
greatest revivals of all time. How did he do it?
Can it be done again? Ruben Kassabian examines
Josiah’s actions and attitudes to find God’s
pattern of revival.
July 16 - Brian Gray - The Higher Path of Mercy
God’s highest goal in
dealing with sinful man is the extension of
mercy. This is revealed in the law and the
prophets when interpreted in light of how Jesus
fulfilled the law. Through the work of Christ
we have been given access to mercy. Romans 8:2
states that “through Christ Jesus the law of the
spirit of life set me free from the law of sin
and death”. The mercy of God supersedes the
principle of sowing and reaping. Two key points
about God’s mercy are:
1) The more aware we
become of the holiness of God, the more we
recognize our desperate need for His mercy.
2) The more we
understand God’s heart toward sinful man the
more we love mercy - both receiving it for
ourselves and extending it to others.
July 9 - Jim Strutz - The Union of Communion
Holy Communion is about more
than Jesus' physical blood and body. It is also
about relationships within the community of
believers. This seems to be the focus of
Paul's revelation on communion in 1 Corinthians
11.
July 2 - Craig Hyder - Repentance; Allow HIM to
transform your mind!
By walking in humility before
GOD we can set ourselves up for REPENTANCE but
IT IS The presence of GOD the brings TRUE
repentance. (Rom 2:4b MSG) In kindness he takes
us firmly by the hand and leads us into a
radical life-change.
